The Wisdom Keepers
How do we navigate when we know the end of life is near?
Diane Button, a death doula end-of-life companion of 20 years, refers to those she assists in the final days journey as "the wisdom keepers". These aspects of wisdom shared aren't necessarily profound mind blowing insights but rather small but deep heartfelt nuggets of inner truths.
We, as with all living beings, will one day cease to exist in this familiar form yet have we taken the time to sit with this reality? Have you allowed space for the inner knowings to rise to the light of your consciousness? Some of these lessons that have been witnessed during the depths of death contemplation involve moments of simplicity, self care and inner beauty, kindness, and stillness.
Some of the simplest moments in life that bring us heartfelt warmth become the ones of remembrance as we near the time of our passing. Walks in nature, favorite foods, loved ones' laughter, and the simple pleasures of an ordinary day become what people recollect with the most affection and gratitude. There is a depth of bliss in these moments that your fading twilight of the self will find solace in.
The concept of self care and its impactfulness is intrinsically felt in the final moments as well. Don't wait until your last breaths approach to be a loving and accepting partner to yourself. Learning and implementing self love in the Now moments allows us to see that true lasting beauty lives on the inside and helps release any hindrance of negative self-speak that might arise as we cease.
With this release, we find peace.
Your moments of kindness throughout life arise when reflecting on your legacy work, the imprint you leave on the world. When revisiting your life's path, the kind moments will reveal themselves providing you with a sense of peace and dignity of the lasting memories left behind. A feeling of ease will accompany these recollections and will most likely overpower any guilt and regrets as you realize the thoughtful kind moments built a lasting foundation for your emotional stability.
The powerful perspective of clarity births forth in our moments of stillness no matter how minute they may be. Navigating near the end may bring on a flood of thoughts and emotions as we tread the waters of transitions. But as we take conscious moments of stillness to be fully present, tranquility transcends the turbulence. Even if it's just looking at flower or watching a flickering candle for a moment with no thought or judgment, these pauses can console the soul into an easement of acceptance. As we pass through the threshold and release the flesh-hold, we can move towards terrestrial transitions with less fear and more Love.
With this Love, we allow the "wisdom keepers" that are ingrained within the depths of our existence to speak their truths and guide us to our harmonious homecomings.
So Be It.
